THE CARE PATHWAY

What should the treatment process look like?

A good process is visible before you start: assessment, a written starting plan, correct teaching, an early checkpoint and a decision based on benefit and safety. You should know who to contact and what happens if the first plan is not suitable.

  1. 1. Confirm suitability

Review health, current medicines, pregnancy plans, goals, alternatives and any preparation.

  2. 2. Start one clear plan

Receive practical instructions for food, movement, monitoring and any prescribed treatment.

  3. 3. Know normal versus concerning

Understand expected adjustment, treatment-specific side effects and symptoms that need prompt or urgent contact.

  4. 4. Review early

Check tolerance, hydration, nutrition, symptoms, routine and agreed measurements at the planned point.

  5. 5. Continue, adjust or refer

Use your response—not a fixed sales package—to decide the next step.

WHAT WE REVIEW

What should be checked during the first weeks?

Weight is one signal, not the whole result. Reviews may also cover hydration, food quality, protein intake, bowel symptoms, sleep, mood, strength, movement, blood pressure, glucose or other markers when relevant, and whether the plan is affordable and workable.

A practical checkpoint

Is the plan being followed safely?

Confusing instructions or missed doses need correction, not blame.

Are symptoms or side effects manageable?

Early support may prevent dehydration, nutritional problems or unnecessary stopping.

Is health or function improving?

Energy, mobility, sleep and relevant markers can matter alongside the scale.

Is the pathway still suitable?

Benefit, risk, preference, cost and daily feasibility can change.
